Maria Nymfiadi is a visual artist born in Athens, Greece. She studied Sculpture at the Athens School of Fine Arts and recently completed an MA in Art Education, Culture, and Practice at the Institute of Education at UCL. She also received a master's in Fine Arts from Central Saint Martins, University of London and studied Photography at Hogeschool voor de Künsten in Utrecht, Holland.
She co-founded the MouSou project with the artist Lea Petrou. The project aims to create participatory art projects that offer a unique insight into the artists' processes and are often related to art education.
Her work includes site-specific installations, collaborative and participatory projects, textile art, photography, video, and performances. She has participated in many group art exhibitions and projects. She is also interested in experimenting with various procedures for interweaving personal and family stories and experiences.
Maria Nymfiadi's belief in the universal need for creativity is a guiding principle in her work. Her experience in different areas, such as art education, graphic design, and furniture design, has reinforced her conviction that everyone can and should be creative. She advocates that the best way to appreciate art is through experience, such as participating in art projects and visiting museums, galleries, and exhibitions. Her work and philosophy empower and encourage all who encounter them.
She lives in London with her family. She runs after-school clubs for children and is developing ideas for intergenerational art educational projects.
